Census stuff Thought this would be of interest - you may have heard of this already. It's crazy - the U.S. Census Bureau wants an accurate count of everyone in the country - but there's no question in the survey that asks if you are lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans-gender. by the same token, had they asked that, folks would be screaming it was an invasion of privacy and how DARE they ask such personal questions etc. You can't win. I filled my census out in rainbow pen.

she's fine. We are at a kind of stand still until my semester is over. We have the nursery almost finished, but I can't do much given that I am working and schooling. She can't do much given that she is rehearsing for a show in may and working still. Thanks for asking, it is nice to be asked as the non-pregnant partner.

Anyone received the American Community Survey? This US Census Bureau document, sent to random households, is much more intrusive than the 10-question census form: And speaking of forms, did anyone notice the standard census form only expects detailed information about six household members? So much for tracking the population with lots of children or multiple generations residing in one home.

It is intrusive As a libertarian I'll only answer the short form. They can conceivably fine you for not completing the long form if you are randomly selected to get one but they never fine people. But for what it's worth it's not entirely the government's fault that the ACS is such a long form full of inappropriate questions. They are heavily lobbied by various groups to include certain questions and they took a lot of flack for deciding to use the short ten questions in ten minutes form in 2010 instead of using the long form for one out of 6 household like they did in 2000. All that data is worth money, lots of money and the groups that want the data don't really care that the invasive questions makes it harder to complete the census. Some of the rude questions ( ie. does anyone in your household have difficulty concentrating ) are for legitimate social causes like groups that advocate for disabled people but a lot of the questions about money and employment are in there because corporate interests that want that data for free lobby for those questions.

I've been amazed lately by the multiplicity of sexual identifications. It's all in how you ask the questions. Some identify as queer, some as 'straight married, with a girlfriend on the side.' I wonder how they would word the questions to get useful answers.
