Language is about communication context is a peice of this, granted, but context is not the sole providence of a race - certainly less so if the race in question chooses to bend the context to its own wishes on a slippery scale of right and wrong.

We were talking about language. Language is always about context. If I my best friend a "bitch" in a playful manner that is very different than if I angrily a stranger a "bitch". The message is completely different. Yet it's the same exact word. I have a friend who s his family trailer trash in a joking manner. I have the tiny bit of common sense required to know that doesn't mean I can them trailer trash. It's not that hard a concept.

Great points, so using your logic you should be able to use a racial epithet with your black friend, because your inflection should tell him its not meant to hurt his feelings - its a term of endearment. If he gets upset, and his problem is that you're white, for instance, he has no right to be upset - because you are using the same inflection another minority might use in the right context.

Have you by any chance noticed that a) not all black people use the n-word as a term of endearment b) even among those that do, they only do so after establishing it's mutually acceptable c) if it's not mutually acceptable, a black person will refrain from ing his friend the n-word
