Monday sub-poll Speaking of books...how are they organized at your house? Mine are roughly by topic and then each shelf is organized according to color. Except for the shrine to Patrick O'Brien which holds all 20 of the Maturin/Aubrey series in chronological order.

not at all, is how Some are on bookshelves, some are in Rubbermaid containers in the garage and closets, some are next to my bed and on side tables in the living room. I really should do this:

lol, no way! im horrible at keeping them organized. the dvd's and the c.ds too. the are in piles, a dvd pile, ect.

all the hiking books are together, the work related books are together...everything by size, and dang you NOW I will have to go arrange by color also.

I have to say that having them organized by color is oddly calming...Mine aren't like the picture ODTM posted, just from darker to lighter on each shelf. It's a little bit obsessive, but it works for me. Ok, off to iron my toilet paper now! :-)

by size, mostly. I have done a lot of paring down in recent years. Now my books only take up two 4x10 ft bookshelves. Thanks to my Kindle, I have managed to stem the overflow that used to appear as waist high stacks next to the shelves and beside my bed.

Did you read 21 ... ? I couldn't quite stand to for the longest time, but it's pretty splendid to see his handwritten ms on one page and the text on the other. The books in my house are organized roughly by subject (except where they aren't) and roughly alphabetiy w/in subjects (except when they're not)

I haven't read 21, but would like to. I find it fascinating to read the author's notes and see how the writing changed over time. Thanks for reminding me about it, I'll start looking for it.

I have a love hate relationship with POB. Apparently, he was a shit to his family...but he wrote these lovely lovely books.

Have you read his other books? Testimonies is one of my favorites as well. So different from the M/A series...I have not delved into any of the biographies yet.

Started reading Testimonies, but it was due back at the library and I didn't ever get around to finishing it. It didn't really grab me. But then again Master and Commander didn't grab me at first, either. Should I give it another try?
